Paul Yandoh has placed third in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Secretary election after failing to secure enough votes to return to the party’s regional executive leadership.
Yandoh, who previously served as the NPP Ashanti Regional Communications Officer, decided to relinquish his position and contest the secretaryship. He obtained 105 votes in the election.
Francis Adomako emerged victorious with 492 votes, while Michael Amoah Awuku finished second with 331 votes.
Yandoh’s campaign attracted considerable attention ahead of the election, partly because of an unusual show of support from outside the NPP.
Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene, a member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), publicly endorsed Yandoh and campaigned for him through social media.
The endorsement generated discussion among political observers and NPP supporters, with many watching closely to see whether the cross-party backing would translate into votes from delegates.
However, the final results showed a clear victory for Adomako, who comfortably topped the contest. Yandoh’s 105 votes placed him well behind the two leading candidates.
The outcome also means Yandoh will not be part of the newly elected NPP Ashanti Regional executive team. His decision to leave the Communications Officer role to pursue the secretaryship ultimately ended his tenure in the regional executive structure.
The election forms part of the NPP’s broader efforts to reorganise its structures and strengthen its operations across the Ashanti Region.
The party is expected to use the new regional leadership to intensify grassroots mobilisation, improve internal organisation and rebuild its political base ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Yandoh’s performance marks the end of his current role within the regional executive, while Adomako now takes on the responsibility of serving as the party’s Ashanti Regional Secretary.
