A pastor and his alleged accomplice have been arrested by police for reportedly attempting to bury a baby alive in a shocking incident that has sparked outrage in Abofrem in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
The head pastor, identified as Apostle Dr. Richmond Akwasi Frimpong of the Anointed Grace Prayer Ministry at Kuffour Camp, and his accomplice are currently in police custody.
The two were arrested in Bibiani after a community member raised an alarm.
According to reports, the informant alerted authorities after allegedly spotting the duo digging a shallow pit while handling an infant under suspicious circumstances.
An eyewitness, Winfred Agbah, said that around 11 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, he saw the pastor and his accomplice at a refuse dump with a baby in troubling conditions.
He said he approached them and discovered the child was still alive, prompting him to raise an alarm.
“The baby was not dead; they intended to bury the child alive for reasons best known to them,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chief Linguist of Abofrem, Nana Yaw Badu, stated that the pastor had earlier informed him that the child was deceased and had requested a burial site.
He added that he was unaware the baby was still alive.
Police in Bibiani have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that the suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The baby has since been taken to the Abofrem Clinic, where it is receiving medical treatment.
