The Ghana Police Service has strongly dismissed claims of disturbances in Nsawam Adoagyiri supposedly linked to the re-collation exercise conducted by the Electoral Commission in Accra on December 21, 2024.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police described the allegations, which were based on a viral video, as entirely unfounded.

The video purported to show individuals blocking roads and setting fires in protest against the collation exercise.

The incident captured in the viral video, reported to have occurred on December 8, 2024, is currently under investigation.

“We wish to state that the claim is false and has no correlation with today’s collation exercise in Accra. The said incident is a reported case under investigation which occurred on 8th December 2024,” the statement clarified.

The Police emphasised that the events depicted in the video were unrelated to the EC’s activities, noting that the re-collation exercise took place in Accra and not Nsawam Adoagyiri.

Unvaried information

The Ghana Police Service urged the public to disregard the video and refrain from sharing unverified information that could incite unnecessary panic or tension.

“We, therefore, urge the public to disregard the false claim,” the statement further urged.

The Police also reassured the public of their commitment to ensuring peace and security during the ongoing electoral processes.

Adequate security

To allay public concerns, the Police has confirmed that sufficient security personnel have been deployed in and around Nsawam Adoagyiri.

This is the commitment of the police to maintain law and order in the area.

The Police reiterated their call for calm, cautioning against the dissemination of misleading reports.

The public is encouraged to cooperate with the Police by verifying information before sharing it, ensuring that peace and stability are preserved during this critical electoral period.
