The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed the death of an 18-year old female student of the EP Senior High School in the Saboba district in the Northern Region. Information gathered by this portal indicates that the unfortunate incident happened on Wednesday, January 22, at about 1339 hours when the Saboba Fire Station received a distress call from a resident.

A crew of 6 firefighters were quickly dispatched to the scene, and upon arrival, they noticed that the school girls dormitory consisting of 3 rooms was completely engulfed with fire.

The GNFS Northern Regional Public Relations Officer, Assistant Divisional Officer, ADO II Hudu Baba, said the swift intervention of the firefighting team could not save the eighteen-year-old student who unfortunately lost her life to the inferno.

“However, after a check, it was discovered that a student by the name Kofi Binidam Theresa was sick and was left in the dormitory locked, the crew quickly intensified efforts towards rescuing the life trapped while efforts were made to contain the fire with buckets and with the support of the students” he reported.

Unfortunately, ADO II Baba lamented that before the victim could be reached out to by the rescue team, she had already passed away.

Meanwhile, the PRO has confirmed that the crew was able to salvage one out of the three rooms. He disclosed further that investigations have commenced to ascertain the root cause of the fire.
