The Minister for Northern Region, Hon Salifu Sa-eed  has donated Personal Protection Equipment and hand washing facilities to the Bimbla government hospital, the security and other public institutions in support of the fight against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the Nanumba North municipality.

The wife of the minister, Hajia Halimato Sagito Sa-eed in the company of the Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Abdulai Yakubu together with some family members on Tuesday, 7 April, 2020, handed over boxes of surgical gloves, Non-contact thermometers, medical isolation gowns, face masks, methylated spirits, mattresses, hand sanitizers, veronica buckets, detergents, dustbins among others to the management of the hospital.

Both military and police services in the municipality and public institutions such as the Bimbila College of Education, Bimbila Senior High School and vantage spots such as public toilets were given some veronica buckets, liquid soaps and sanitizers to improve personal hygiene of the inhabitants in order to curb community spread of the disease in the northern region.

Bimbila is the hometown of the minister, who also served as then District Chief Executive in the erstwhile John Kufuor NPP administration.

Speaking to thecustodianghonline.com after the exercise, the Minister’s First Lady said the gesture was a personal support of the husband to his community members.

Hajia Sagito noted the country is at a critical stage where all efforts are geared towards combating the spread of the novel virus.

“So we have identified core groups of people that we think are very important, though everybody is important in this fight, but you have people whose impact is very massive and can reach out to too many people, so as the northern regional minister thought it wise that the hospital is a very strategic area of concern” Hajia Sagito explained.

The Bimbila hospital is the main referral centre serving the people of Nanumba North district and many other communities in the eastern corridor stretch before Yendi.

Meanwhile, management of the hospital has thanked the minister for the gesture, noting the situation at hand now requires these interventions and further urged benevolent individuals and organizations to emulate the steps taken by Mr. Salifu Saeed.

He indicated the items will boost the ability of the facility to provide healthcare to the people and therefore promised to put them into good use and purpose for which they are donated.

For his part, the Chief Executive for Bimbila, Abdulai Yakubu also thanked the Northern Regional Minister for extending a helping hand to the municipality. He said this couldn’t have arrived at a better time than now.
