Hajia Safia Mohammed, Savannah Region NPP women's organiser mobilising votes for NPP

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Savannah Regional Women Organizer has begun a campaign trail dubbed, “Operation Add Your Vote” to maximise votes for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the party’s seven parliamentary candidates in the December 7, 2020, general election.

According to Hajia Safia Mohammed, the President should receive massive votes because he has demonstrated his enormous love and affection towards the Chiefs and people of the Gonja Traditional Area by creating the Savannah region, commissioning the Yapei/Kusawgu Water Supply Project and cutting sod for the construction of the Damongo Water Supply System.

These and many other interventions, the NPP Women’s Organiser pointed out, have been implemented in the region and that President Akufo-Addo has proven his commitment in fulfilling his 2016 promise to the Gonja land.

“In 2016 when we were on a campaign tour, we paid a courtesy call on the Yapeiwura and his main challenge was potable water,” the NPP women’s organiser recounted.

The Yapeiwura was quoted to have said, “I have a brother who is a president and I am sitting closer to water but I myself and my people we are thirsty.”

President Akufo-Addo then flagbearer promised the revered chief that when he became the president he was going to provide drinking water to him and the people.

“The long awaiting dream of Gonjaland; the serious headache and challenge we were having for that matter when they ask what tribe are you, the moment you say I am a Gonja the slogan goes ‘Nchu munwta’ (no water)”, she explained.

“When I was growing up as a child I used to ask why we are surrounded by water; the White Volta, the Black Volta are found in Gonjaland but yet still we have that tag Nchu munwta; until we got to Yapeiwura’s palace in 2016 that was where I got to know that the Nchu munwta does not actually mean there is no water in Gonjaland. There is water but not good enough for consumption.

“Thankfully, President Akufo-Addo, despite the one seat the Savannah region gave him; he gave us a region that our ancestors were yearning for, he didn’t stop there, we can all see the numerous developmental projects springing up in the region” an excited Hajia Safia stated.

The NPP Savannah Regional Women Organiser made these remarks to THE CUSTODIAN in an interview after she had engaged some women groups in separate gatherings at Damongo due to the social distancing protocol of COVID-19.

She urged the groups to massively vote for the President and the party’s parliamentary candidate for Damongo who doubles as Deputy Chief of Staff, Abu Jinapor.

Hajia Safia noted that the Savannah region has the biggest in land size compared to other regions in Ghana but lamented the region is lagging far behind in development.

She mentioned the Daboya/Mankarigu road, Yapei bridge as some of the ongoing projects, saying the construction of the Daboya bridge is also on the pipeline.

“Many communities have been connected to the national grid through government’s rural electrification project, areas where there were no network signals are now a thing of the past, water has now been extended to the former President’s mothers’ hometown Busunu. Let’s show Nana Akufo-Addo our love because he is working” she urged voters. In her view, with all these interventions and developmental projects brought by the NPP government, the dreams of the people will be shuttered if President Akufo-Addo is not given another four years to complete them.
