Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Savelugu constituency have declared their full support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to become the flagbearer of the party ahead of the upcoming presidential primary scheduled for January 31.
The declaration was made by polling station executives, the 25 electoral area coordinators and former constituency executives yesterday, Sunday, January 11, when Dr Mahamudu Bawumia visited the constituency as part of his 5-day tour of the Northern Region.
The decision to support the former Vice President is as a result of his experience, competence and credibility.
President of the polling station executives, Mr. Awal Husein, in his remarks, said that the NPP stands the chance of winning the 2028 elections with Dr Bawumia as the flagbearer.
”As polling station executives and grassroots leaders, we are convinced that the New Patriotic Party stands a better chance of winning the 2028 elections under your leadership. Your vision of a digital, inclusive, and opportunity-driven Ghana resonates strongly with the youth, the business community, and party faithful across the country” he stated.
He added that leadership must be anchored in vision, discipline, truth, and not insults, divisions, or personal attacks.
He noted that the record of Dr Bawumia as Vice President played a critical role in shaping policy, driving reforms and modernising governance in the country.
“Under your leadership, Ghana made bold strides in digital transformation. The Ghana Card system, mobile money interoperability, digitised public services, paperless ports, and digital addressing were not slogans.
They were real reforms that reduced corruption, improved efficiency and saved time and money for ordinary Ghanaians. These achievements clearly demonstrate your capacity to lead Ghana into the future,” he emphasised.
Mr. Husein maintained that Dr Bawumia’s deep understanding of the economy, combined with his calm, solution-driven leadership style, gives the NPP a strong and credible candidate for the 2028 elections.
”We firmly believe that leadership must be anchored in vision, discipline, truth and service – not insults, divisions, or personal attacks” he posited.
When elected as Flagbearer and subsequently President of Ghana, the NPP requested Dr Bawumia to champion job creation, entrepreneurship and industrial development in constituencies like Savelugu.
”We also respectfully call for a future that recognises loyalty and hard work. Many loyal party workers, particularly polling station executives, were sidelined during recruitment and appointment processes. This created frustration and disillusionment at the grassroots,” he lamented.
For their part, the former executives also pledged to vote Dr Bawumia for recognizing their contributions to the party.
They acknowledged the role of the former Vice President in the party’s Constitutional reforms which has paved the way for them to be part of the electoral system.
