The Member of Parliament for Savelugu Constituency in the Northern Region, Hon Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, has disbursed an amount of One hundred and twenty-nine thousand (GHS129, 000) cedis to support brilliant but needy students in her constituency pursuing tertiary education.
The beneficiaries applied through the MP’s educational fund launched earlier this year to provide financial assistance to underprivileged students. About fifty (50) students received support at the inaugural ceremony some months ago.
However, a total of eighty (80) students for the second badge of disbursement also benefitted from the financial intervention of the lawmaker on Monday, December 1, 2025, to pay their school fees among other expenses.
Addressing Journalists after the presentation ceremony at the Savelugu Disability Center, the Deputy Ranking member of Parliament’s Select Committee on Gender noted that the intervention was in fulfillment of her 2024 campaign promise to support the of the youth and women empowerment.
”In line with my commitment as the Member of Parliament for the good people of Savelugu constituency, I made certain promises to my constituents during the 2024 campaign that if they voted me I was going impact lives and this is one of the promises I made to them” she explained.
However, the MP indicated that the intervention was a charity work but rather a deliberate investment to secure a brighter future for the youth whose potentials remains untapped.
She emphasised that the dreams of these people deserve to be nurtured and not hindered due to lack financial support, highlighting the importance of education in propelling development in the Savelugu municipality and improving the living conditions of the inhabitants.
”As the Member of Parliament, I know there are many more youth that need our support and I remain committed to expanding opportunities for all of them and ensuring that no child is left behind.
”This is not the beginning of this students support system, we’ve done before – four months ago, we supported about 50 students and this time around we have moved the number to about 80 and the total amount we have disbursed is about GHS129, 000″ Hajia Fatahiya stated.
The New Patriotic Party lawmaker further admonished the students to take their studies seriously in order to excel in their respective academic journey so that after graduation they can also contribute meaningful to the society.
Meanwhile, some of the students in an interview commended the lawmaker for the intervention on behalf of their families.
Abukari Alhassan Azara, one of the female students described the MP as God sent, stating this was a novelty as it was the first time a dedicated fund was launched to support underprivileged students in the area.
The NPP Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Alhassan Saani, in his remarks called on the youth to take advantage of the initiative to acquire knowledge to better their lives.
He also urged the constituents and all stakeholders including traditional and religious leaders, women and the youth to rally behind the MP to deliver on her mandate.
