In a bid to deepen economic ties and boost bilateral trade between Ghana and China, the Sichuan–Chongqing Ghana Chamber of Commerce has officially been inaugurated, establishing a new platform to drive investment, industrial collaboration, and business exchange between Ghanaian enterprises and the thriving economic hubs of Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality.

The launch event, held on Wednesday, 19th November 2025, at the Tang Palace Hotel in Accra, assembled diplomats, senior government officials, business leaders, and representatives from leading Ghanaian, Chinese, and West African institutions.

Among the key dignitaries were the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Tong Defa; Ghana’s Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration), Nana Oye Bampoe Addo; senior Chinese business executives; and leaders from Ghana’s public and private sectors.

The gathering created a platform for economic dialogue, cultural exchange, and renewed commitment to strengthening the long-standing Ghana–China partnership.

Ambassador commends growing partnership

Delivering the keynote address, Chinese Ambassador Tong Defa hailed the inauguration as a “timely and strategic development” in the evolving partnership between the two nations. He noted that cooperation between Ghana and China continues to expand in a manner that reflects “clarity and purpose.”

“China remains committed to supporting Ghana’s industrial growth, infrastructure expansion, digital transformation, and long-term development agenda,” he stated.

Ambassador Tong encouraged companies from Sichuan and Chongqing to take full advantage of opportunities in Ghana’s manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, technology, and energy sectors.

Madam Sihong Jiang outlines the chamber’s vision

President of the Chamber, Madam Sihong Jiang, reiterated the organisation’s mission to serve its members while promoting practical, impactful collaboration.

“Guided by the Chamber’s mission, we will strengthen services to build a true home for our members,” she said.

She added that the Chamber would integrate resources to create meaningful platforms for business cooperation and uphold social responsibility to maintain a trustworthy image while nurturing a warm, united community of Ghanaian and Chinese enterprises.

According to her, the Chamber aims to become a central driver of bilateral trade growth, industrial collaboration, cultural exchange and targeted investment promotion.

Madam Jiang stressed that the Chamber is open to Ghanaian companies seeking opportunities in Sichuan and Chongqing—two of China’s most dynamic and rapidly expanding economic regions.

Tang Hong calls for stronger trade links

Honorary Development Advisor to the Chamber and Chairman of the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies, Mr. Tang Hong, applauded the Chamber’s establishment as a major boost for commerce and investment.

He described it as a “powerful platform” that will open fresh avenues for trade and structured business partnerships.

“This Chamber will open fresh channels for trade, promote industrial collaboration, and provide businesses with structured, reliable avenues for partnership,” he said.

Mr. Tang emphasised that strengthened ties with Sichuan and Chongqing—two economic giants—would accelerate technology transfer, enhance investor confidence, and deepen Ghana’s economic advancement.

Govt endorses Chamber’s launch

Representing the Government of Ghana, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration), welcomed the launch as a significant milestone in Ghana–China cooperation.

She cited President John Dramani Mahama’s recent state visit to China, which advanced collaboration in green energy, industrialisation, infrastructure development, and emerging technologies.

She noted that the remarkable industrial transformation in Sichuan and Chongqing provides lessons and opportunities for Ghana, especially in job creation, capacity building, and manufacturing expansion.

“This Chamber will serve as a bridge, helping Ghana harness the industrial potential of Sichuan and Chongqing to raise our standards and strengthen our position as a global partner,” she said.

Why Sichuan and Chongqing matter

Sichuan Province, with over 80 million people, is one of China’s most prosperous regions and a leader in healthcare, traditional medicine, electronics, advanced manufacturing, agriculture, and clean energy. Its capital, Chengdu, is a major hub for finance, technology, and global innovation.

Chongqing Municipality—home to more than 30 million people—is China’s largest city and a major industrial and logistics powerhouse.

As a key inland port on the Yangtze River and a gateway for the Belt and Road Initiative, it is known for automobile manufacturing, electronics production, and heavy industry.

Together, the two regions represent formidable engines of growth, innovation, and investment.

A colourful display of culture and unity

The ceremony included spirited cultural performances by Vice President Liu Xianbo, the Panda Street Dance troupe, HCOWA staff, Essence Clinic, and Daijaweikang Lin Qi, symbolising the fusion of Ghanaian and Chinese artistic traditions.

A 30-winner grand lucky draw, hosted by Executive Vice President Mr. Li Jun, added excitement, alongside several citations presented to distinguished advisors and the Chamber’s President.

A strategic platform for the future

The inauguration of the Sichuan–Chongqing Ghana Chamber of Commerce marks a new chapter in Ghana–China economic relations.

Positioned as a platform for investment promotion, trade expansion, technology transfer, industrial collaboration, and cultural exchange, the Chamber is expected to help Ghana attract new investment while tapping into the economic dynamism of Sichuan and Chongqing.
