The Metropolitan Chief Executive for Tamale, Mr. Sule Salifu, has disclosed that the Tamale Metropolis is expected to benefit a total amount of Four Million, Seven Hundred and Ninety-Five Thousand, Three Hundred and Forty- Four Ghana Cedis, Forty Pesewas, (GH₵4,795,344.40) from the World Bank Gulf of Guinea Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project to accelerate growth and development in the northern regional capital.

The Mayor during the 2nd General Meeting of the Metropolitan Assembly on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, further outlined the various infrastructure projects earmarked under the programme.  

The projects he mentioned include, a supply of two thousand (2000) Dual Desks at a cost of GH₵961,500.00, construction of an ultra-modern Astroturf at Zogbeli cluster of schools at a cost of GH₵2,608,844.40, Rehabilitation of Tamale Youth Home, GH₵400,000.00, and Supply and Installation of security lights and Metal Gates at Aboabu Market, at an amount of GH₵825000.00.

Mr. Sule Salifu announced that the tender process was opened for the enumerated five projects earmarked for implementation, adding currently the bids are being evaluated to select the most qualified tenderers to be awarded the contracts for work to begin.

According to the Tamale Chief Executive, eight community facilitators will be employed and provided with motor bikes and allowances to support the implementation process and stressed that the logistics provided will facilitate their work.

PWDs Fund

Meanwhile, the Mayor also seized the opportunity to brief the assembly the progress made in the disbursement of stipends for persons with disability in the metropolis.

He said the Disability Fund Management Committee of the assembly supervised the disbursement of the disability fund to 30 beneficiaries in the 1st quarter of 2023, adding the committee is currently working to ensure the disbursement of the recently received disability funds to qualified persons with disability.

LEAP

On the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), Mr. Sule Salifu stated a total of 1,017 beneficiaries have been selected from 19 communities to receive their grants from the government. The government recently announced a 100% increment of the LEAP stipends.

The Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive believes the increment of the allowances is indicated of the government’s resolve to cushion these underprivileged in the society to be able to afford the basic necessities of life.
