Speaker Oquaye presenting GH¢10,000 Cheque to the Dean of PPC, Nana Agyeman Birikorang

Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament Professor Aaron Michael Oquaye has donated an amount of ten thousand Ghana cedis (GH¢10,000.00) to support the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC) Education Fund.

It would be recalled that about a month ago during the first edition of the Parliamentary Reporting Awards, the Dean of the Parliamentary Press Corps, Nana Agyeman Birikorang, indicated in his welcome address that a number of journalists corresponding from Parliament House are furthering their education in various tertiary institutions in the country who needed to be supported.

He was of the view that these journalists sometimes find it difficult to pay their school fees but they also cannot decide not to continue their education and learn modern skills and technology in journalism and communication.

The Executives of the PPC have therefore set up an Education Fund to support the journalists in furthering their education with the objective that it would help to report proceedings of parliament accurately.

The Speaker of Parliament who was the Guest of Honour for the PPC Parliamentary Reporting Awards noted that Professionals must always strive to learn new things emerging in their profession therefore the Executives of the Corps are on the right path and they needed to be supported.

Speaker Oquaye who took inspiration from the PPC Parliamentary Reporting Awards last Wednesday organised the maiden Speaker’s Special Award aimed at recognizing the hard work of Members of Parliament and Staff of the legislature.

He later donated an amounted of GH¢10,000.00 to help the Executives of the Press Corps to raise seed money for the Education Fund.
