The Queen mother of Dagbon, Her Majesty Kazia Salifu Asana, has refurbished the age-long deteriorated Yendi Municipal Fire Service Station. The structure has not witnessed any form of major renovations since its establishment for about 40 years today.

The station before this intervention was in a very deplorable state with heavy cracks on the walls, roof leakages, faded paint, inadequate office space, insanitary washrooms among other major challenges.

The situation crippled the administrative duties of the personnel and undermined the performance of the Ghana National Fire Service in the Yendi municipality.

However, upon hearing news of the sorry state of the facility, the spouse of the Ya Naa swiftly intervened to rehabilitate the station in order for them to meet their statutory obligations to the people of Yendi and its adjoining communities.

The project included construction of a new spacious crew-room, two wash-rooms with water closets, extension of the appliance bay, tiled and installed Air-conditioner in the office of the Municipal Fire Officer (MFO) and a facelift of the entire building.

The Northern Regional Fire Commander, ACFO I James Ankrah, at the handing over ceremony expressed the gratitude of Chief Fire Officer, management and personnel especially of the Yendi Municipal Fire Command to the Queen mother for the immense support.

He implored the personnel of the station to continue to be discipline and exhibit a high sense of professionalism in performing their duties and also charged them to take good care of the beautiful edifice and the fire engine to last the test of time.

Like Oliver Twist, the Regional Fire Officer also called on individuals, benevolent organizations and philanthropists to emulate the gesture of the Queen mother and equip the service with the requisite logistics such as motorcycles and bicycles to enable the personnel carry out frequent public safety education programs.

ACFO I James Ankrah added mechanized borehole and poly-tanks are also needed to aid in firefighting, office equipment and any other resource necessary for the efficient running of the station.

Meanwhile, the Regional Fire Commander later led a team to pay a courtesy call on Ya Abukari II, the Overlord of Dagbon, at the Gbewaa Palace to expressed their deepest appreciation for the support of the Queen mother.

The Dagbon King prayed for the service and assured them of his full support to continue to save lives and properties in the community.
