The State Funeral rites of the late Hajia Ramatu Aliu Mahama, wife of former Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, is slated for Saturday, June 4, 2022. The funeral would be held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on behalf of the government of Ghana will join the former second family of the Republic to perform the final rites at the nation’s capital.

Other sympathizers and family friends are expected from across the global to participate and celebrate the life of Hajia Ramatu with the Aliu Mahama and Imoro Egala families.

Hon Farouk Aliu Mahama, first male child of the late Hajia Ramatu confirmed the funeral date to THE CUSTODIAN contained in a circular advertising the funeral.

“The government of Ghana, the families of Zongo Naa Mahama and Alhaji Imoro Egala wish to invite the general public to the final funeral rites of Her Excellency Hajia Ramatu Aliu Mahama”.  

Hajia Ramatu Mahama was the daughter of the late Imoro Egala, a former Minister for Trade and Industry, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Minister for Health, first Ghanaian Chairman of Ghana Cocoa Board, in the first Republic and a long standing political stalwart in Ghana through to the third republic; doubling as a founder of the PNP now PNC.

The former second lady passed on at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on April 7 after a short illness.

During her days as Ghana’s Second Lady, Hajia Ramatu  championed and advocated for women participation in decision making process of the country and empowered the underprivileged particularly Ghana through diverse social intervention projects to improve lives.
