The Mayor of Tamale, Hon Sule Salifu has picked nominations to ran for the New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Primaries in the Tamale Central Constituency. Tamale Central is one of the nine orphan constituencies in the northern region the governing party is holding primaries to elect prospective candidates to lead the NPP into the 2024 general elections.
The other constituencies are, Tamale South, Tamale North, Sagnarigu, Kumbungu, Savelugu Wulensi, Saboba and Kpandai.
The NPP former Northern Regional Director of Communications, Ibrahim Mohammed Sheriff, who has been appointed as campaign spokesperson on Wednesday, July 12, submitted a bankers draft of GHS3,000 as required by the party’s guidelines before picking the nomination forms on behalf of Mr. Sule Salifu.
In an interview, Mr. Sheriff said the Tamale Chief Executive has received the blessings of the rank and file of the party has decided to pick nominations to contest the upcoming parliamentary primaries.
“The Hon Mayor of Tamale has expressed interest after consultations with variety of stakeholders in the Tamale Central Constituency to put himself up to be elected as the Parliamentary Candidate by the delegates of the New Patriotic Party pursuant to the 2024 elections.”
Mr. Sule Salifu has described as a seasoned politician who has risen through all the ranks right from his school days to the point where he won the confidence of President Nana Akufo-Addo to become the Mayor of Tamale.
“…And at this point in time, it is his view and the view of many of us that, he will the best foot to put forward for the party’s project to win the Tamale Central Constituency for the first time since the constituency was created from the Gulkpegu/Sabonjida Constituency” he stressed.
The Spokesperson added the Campaign Team at this point is going through with the filling of the nomination form processes and in due time as and when it is completed, the full campaign would be launched.
Meanwhile, the Tamale Central Constituency is one of the areas the governing NPP has targeted to snatch from the National Democratic Congress in 2024. Therefore, the party is putting all its arsenals towards achieving the goal of adding it to their stock of seats in the northern region.
