The Northern Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the rights and liberties of Journalists practicing in the Northern, North East and Savannah regions.
The GJA Executives in the region have also sent a word of caution to all media practitioners to be mindful of their actions at all times.
The Regional Chairman, Mr. Yakubu Abdul Majeed, in a statement on Thursday, February 1, 2024, emphasized the association’s zeal and determination to use legitimate and legal means to protect the right and liberties of all media practitioners.
The Chairman disclosed that the Gbewaa Chambers have served the GJA a demand notice on behalf of the Member of Parliament for Yendi, Hon Farouk Aliu Mahama and hinted the association will respond accordingly and appropriately.
He said the association is not perturbed, not this time, about the development but called for the cooperation, understanding and support of all stakeholders.
Meanwhile, the Yendi legislator is demanding an unqualified apology from the Ghana Journalists Association for allegedly accusing him of assaulting the Northern Regional correspondent of Accra based Citi FM/TV during the recently held New Patriotic Party Parliamentary primary in Yendi.
He also demands a cash compensation of GH₵500,000 and a publication of the apology through the same medium he was reportedly to be defamed.
