The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale, Hon Sule Salifu, has cut the sod for the construction of an ultramodern Astroturf facility for the Zogbeli cluster of schools.
The project is one of the four projects earmarked for construction this year under the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Projects funded by the World Bank.
The four projects is estimated to cost at a total amount of four million, four hundred and eighteen thousand, three hundred and thirty-five cedis (GHS4,418,335.50). The SOCO project is a five-year developmental initiative undertaken in 48 districts in across six regions by the government of Ghana with US$150 million credit facility secured from the World Bank.
The Mayor of Tamale, Hon Sule Salifu, in his brief remarks after handing over the site to the contractor said no government since 1992 has given the people of Zogbeli such magnificent project in the community.
He disclosed the project cost an amount of three million cedis (GHS3 million) and emphasized that is the type of investment the Akufo-Addo government is bringing to the area.
“And I think that the Zogbeli people must take this project as their project. We never selected this project Zogbeli people, that was their concern and we had to relay this information to the President and thankfully, the President included Zogbeli in his menu and that is why today is going to benefit from this SOCO money by way of getting this Astroturf put up in the community” he stated.
The Tamale Chief Executive added that, “In fact, when the Zogbeli people wanted this Astroturf, I came here in the evening and saw the several teams all over the place playing football and said to myself that the wish of the people must be met by the President and the President has done that.”
Mr. Sule Salifu however seized the opportunity to appeal to Ghanaians to be patient with the Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party government and assured that the government will not let down the citizenry, stressing the good things have started coming and it would be distributed evenly to every community to boost their socioeconomic wellbeing.
Meanwhile, the Mayor earlier handed over a number of motorcycles to the community facilitators under the project to enhance their mobility and efficiency.
The MCE urged the facilitators to ensure the machines are kept in good conditions to serve the purpose for which they are procured.
