The Metropolitan Chief Executive for Tamale, Sule Salifu, on Monday (June 10, 2024) commissioned a newly built mechanized borehole for the Northern Regional Hospital formerly Tamale Central Hospital.
The project with funding support from the Fatih Foundation, a nongovernmental organisation operating in the Northern Region aims to ensure frequent water supply at the hospital to enable efficient and effective healthcare delivery.
At a short handing over ceremony, the Tamale Mayor underscored the importance of water for healthcare delivery adding the water system will serve both health workers and patients.
“Facilities such as the hospitals must be given potable water. Several people come from several districts, communities, villages, and towns to access medical care in this facility and it is important as an Assembly to also try to woe our development partners to see how we can reduce some of the challenges that they faced especially with water” he stated.
Mr. Sule further thanked the Fatih Foundation for their enormous support, urging the benevolent organization to continue strengthening ties with the Metropolitan Assembly to provide the same gesture for other facilities in the capital city.
“Now l want to appeal to you again as l indicated earlier in our private discussion that it is the intention of the Assembly to see how we can facilitate the construction of more boreholes for our hospitals. The Tamale West Hospital is another hospital l want you to look at, and the Tamale Teaching Hospital because of the volumes of people trooping into the hospital for medical care.”
For his part, the Principal of Fatih College, Mr Yaseen Saadalddin Hadi, who supervised the construction of the project indicated that the foundation drills boreholes for hospitals, schools, prisons, Mosque in Tamale and other parts of the northern region.
Mr. Yaseen further gave an assurance that his outfit will continue to execute such a humanitarian projects to mitigate the suffering of people in the underserved and deprived communities.
Meanwhile the Medical Director of the Northern Regional Hospital, Bashiru Abdul Majeed, on his part expressed his profound gratitude to the Mayor and the Fatih Foundation stating that, “We’re happy to receive the borehole, the hospital needs a lot of water to operate and so boreholes being available will make it easier for patients and staff to access water to save the people”.
He stated the borehole would be put in to good use and maintained properly for generations to come.
