The Member of Parliament of Tamale North Constituency, Hon Alhassan Suhiyini has handed over some infrastructure facilities to boost healthcare service in the Sagnarigu municipality.

Infrastructure is a critical component when it comes to promoting access to quality healthcare particularly in less endowed communities.

The lawmaker last Monday (June 27, 2022) commissioned two separate Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) Care Centers at Tuunayili and Taha and Nursing Bungalows at Ward K to ensure 24/7 health service delivery in the constituency.

Addressing Journalists, the two-term MP said the projects were done in collaboration with the Sagnarigu Municipal Health Directorate who helped with the design specifications to facilitate the provision of quality healthcare in the beneficiary communities.

“The request was made of me to support with structures that would prevent them and protect them from the bad weather, I thought it was important to respond to those requests and so in collaboration with the Municipal Health Director, we came out with this design to facilitate the provision of healthcare in these communities.”

The legislature stated that the facilities will go a long way to help accommodate pregnant women, improve antenatal and postnatal healthcare delivery in the peri-urban communities.

“This morning at Tuunaayili we handed over a completed RCH, that is a Child Welfare Centre that will help to accommodate pregnant women and infants that are brought to the Tuunaayili Health Centre for weighing and here we are here Taha handing over a similar structure to the community; and it is our hope that it would serve women and especially babies around Taha and its environs.

“Before we got here, we had to stop at Ward K; if you recalled a year ago, through the support of Qatar Charity, we were able to provide a health centre at Ward K and at the launch the community requested that we supported with Nurses and Midwives quarters so that they could provide 24hour service and thanks be to God, today we have redeem the promise” he announced.

Maternal & Infant Mortality

Alhaji Alhassan Suhiyini believes the facilities will also contribute significantly to the reduction of maternal and infant mortality in the municipality, reiterating it will improve antenatal and postnatal care.

Meanwhile, the Tamale North MP has also urged residents of the beneficiary communities not to encroach the lands meant purposely for development as it makes it difficult for expansion of existing facilities and other developmental projects in future.
