The Northern Regional Police Command’s Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) has arrested three suspects in connection with the theft of a newborn baby at One Heart Hospital in Lamashegu, a suburb of Tamale.
According to the police report, a lady posing as a nurse visited the labour ward and took the baby boy under the pretext of administering an injection. The incident occurred on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at around 10:30 am.
The Northern Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent Alhassan Luckman Niendow, in a statement, said the suspects arrested include two nurses on duty at the time of the incident and a security guard.
The suspects are: Abubakari Fatima Bintu, a nurse; Grace Asiedu Mensah, another nurse and Abukari Iddi, the security guard.
Mr. Niendow said the police are working assiduously to locate the baby and arrest other suspects involved.
The Regional PRO called on the public to assist the police with relevant information to locate the newborn.
The Custodian online has learned that the hospital CCTV cameras are malfunctioning, which many people have questioned the seriousness of the hospital management in providing adequate security at the facility.
