The Ghana Police Service have announced the commencement of investigations into the death of three children who reportedly got missing over the weekend but were later found dead in a car parked at Koblimahagu Zou, in the Tamale Metropolis.
The deceased have been identified as Dauda Abdul Aziz, aged 3, Saani Alsharaf, aged 5 and Dauda Fadilan, aged 7.
“The Northern Regional Police Command has commenced investigation into the demise of three children whose bodies were discovered in the boot of a vehicle at Koblimahagu Zoo in the Tamale Metropolis of the Northern Region” the police announced in a statement.
The Northern Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Wisdom Lavoe who signed the statement said police a complaint on Monday, October 5, 2026, that the children allegedly left home for Islamic classes at about 8am on Sunday, October 4, but did not return home.
However, all efforts by community members to locate them proved unsuccessful until at about 5am on Monday, October 5, when their bodies were discovered inside the boot of a black Hyundai Tucson car with registration number AS 1770-14.
Mr. Lavoe said the vehicle was found stuck in mud on a road leading to the area when police personnel visited the scene.
According to him, preliminary inspection of the vehicle revealed that the driver’s door and the rear passenger door behind the driver’s seat were open, while the other doors, including the boot, were locked.
The Commander announced investigations conducted so far revealed the vehicle belongs to a personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service who indicated the vehicle had been stuck in the mud for the past five days.
He has since been arrested and taken to Accra to assist police investigations.
Meanwhile, a special team comprising homicide investigators, crime scene experts and intelligence officers have been deployed to Tamale by the Inspector-General of Police to support the Northern Regional Police Command with the investigation.
The Regional Command has already secured the vehicle for further forensic examination. DCOP Wisdom Lavoe said the outcome of the autopsy and ongoing investigations are expected to provide further information on the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
“We assure the public that all necessary investigative steps are being taken to determine the circumstances that led to the deaths of the three children. We therefore urge the public to remain calm as investigations continue” he stated.
