The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Northern Regional Police Command have temporarily closed the Choggu-GBC road to the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, the Abedi Pele roundabout road and those from the Tamale Senior High School and Sagnarigu connecting to the sports stadium.
This is part of the security arrangement to police today’s regional delegates conference of the New Patriotic Party in the northern region.
The NPP will to the polls Friday morning (May 27, 2022) to elect regional executives of the party.
The MTTD Commander, Chief Supt Mahmud Yussif, speaking to THE CUSTODIAN exclusively said the convenience is greatly regrettable and urged motorists in the metropolis and parts of the Sagnarigu municipality to use alternative routes to undertake their socioeconomic activities.
“The New Patriotic Party will be holding its regional executive elections today Friday and within the period starting about 0700hours to 1500hours and as part of our security preparations and with the seriousness the command attaches to this election; some roads will be temporarily closed to traffic.”
Chief Supt Mahmud Yussif indicated adequate police personnel will be deployed to provide security particularly the Gridco road along the Nyohini forest and other strategic locations within that stretch to redirect the traffic.
“The roads will not be permanently closed throughout the day; as and when the security situation improves – when we see the need to review the closure, it will be opened for traffic flow” he reiterated.
Meanwhile, the conference is expected to commence at exactly 8am for the Regional Chairman and Secretary are expected present statements on the status of the party as well as the Treasurer giving the financial statement before the elections will be conducted by the Electoral Commission.
