The Minister for Education, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the government is in the final stages of approving a dedicated Fund and a comprehensive national policy for technical and vocational education and training in Ghana.
According to the Minister, the policy intervention, when in place, will ensure sustainable financing, quality assurance, and stronger partnerships between training institutions and industry.
The Education Minister, who doubles as Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tamale South constituency, disclosed this in a Facebook post after a working visit to the Northern and Savannah Regions on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
“Yesterday, I had the privilege of joining the chiefs and people of Bimbilla in the Nanumba North Municipality and Salaga in the East Gonja Municipality for a matter of national importance that reflects our collective commitment to transforming education in Ghana,” he wrote.
The Education Minister earlier in the day, commissioned a 160-bed girls’ dormitory block and a 24-seater sanitary facility for female students at the Bimbila Senior High School (SHS) constructed by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) during the erstwhile Akufo-Addo-led administration.
He also subsequently cut sod for the construction of a state-of-the-art TVET Centre of Excellence at Salaga.
In his remarks, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu reaffirmed the commitment of the John Dramani Mahama government to finishing all inherited projects according to the directive principles of state policy.
The Minister referenced Article 35 (7) Chapter 6 of the 1992 constitution, which states that, “ As far as practicable, a government shall continue and execute projects and programmes commenced by previous governments.”
“I will be the first to acknowledge the initiative of the previous government and to assure you that President John Dramani Mahama, under his Reset Agenda, will continue with every worthy, viable initiative of the previous government, same in the instances where he is not satisfied with the value for money of that initiative,” Mr Haruna Iddrisu added.
According to him, the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will not behave like the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, when a number of projects started far back in 2014 were left unattended.
Highlighting on the Salaga TVET Centre of Excellence, the Education Minister indicated that project once completed will provide modern, industry-relevant skills training for young people across the area—empowering them to contribute meaningfully to local and national development.
“Under President Mahama’s Reset Agenda, we are restoring hope, rebuilding confidence, and creating a resilient economy that benefits everyone.
“At the heart of this vision is our commitment to equipping the youth with the technical skills, creativity, and innovation needed to power a 24-hour economy built on productivity and decent work,” he added.
