The Western Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects featured in a widely circulated viral video, in which they were seen physically assaulting and coercing two teenagers—a 13-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl—into engaging in sexual intercourse.
The suspects are Edward Azalekor, 52, an Assemblyman for the Effiakuma West Electoral Area, and Martin Amuzu, 35, who is the uncle of the female victim. They were apprehended on Thursday, February 26, 2026, in Effiakuma.
Police received the disturbing WhatsApp video from a presenter at Connect FM, which prompted swift action. The footage shows the suspects forcing the minors to perform the sexual act inside a shop, while bystanders cheered, laughed, and recorded the incident.
Preliminary investigations indicate that on the afternoon of February 16, 2026, the 17-year-old girl left home without informing her mother and returned around 7:40 p.m.
Angered by her absence, the mother contacted Assemblyman Azalekor to discipline the girl. The suspects then lured the 13-year-old boy to the location and compelled the two teenagers to engage in the act.
The accused were arraigned before the Harbour District Court in Takoradi on Friday, February 27, 2026, where each was granted bail in the amount of GHC 20,000. They are required to reappear in court on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
The female victim is currently under the care and protection of the Department of Social Welfare. Investigations remain ongoing, with intensified efforts to apprehend Isaac Nana Osei, who is alleged to have filmed the incident and is currently at large.
This incident has drawn widespread condemnation for the egregious abuse of minors and the failure of adults in positions of authority and familial responsibility to protect vulnerable children.
