The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Touré in Kumasi in October 2025.
The suspects have been identified as 32-year-old Nigerien national Salifu Walid and 24-year-old Burkinabe Aziz Wadrago Mane. They were arrested on September 20, 2026, at a hideout in Banpanase, near Mamponteng, in the Ashanti Region.
According to the Police, the suspects are members of a four-person group that allegedly posed as football scouts and used online platforms to lure victims to Ghana.
Investigators say the group allegedly lured Touré into Ghana as part of a scheme to defraud him, before kidnapping and killing him.
On October 16, 2025, individuals claiming to be Touré’s brothers took him to the Manhyia Hospital with multiple abdominal injuries, alleging that he had been involved in an accident. He was pronounced dead on arrival.
The individuals subsequently deposited his body at the Ebenezer Mortuary at Tafo before absconding.
The circumstances surrounding Touré’s death had earlier triggered concerns in Senegal. The country’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said preliminary investigations suggested that the goalkeeper may have been a victim of a fraud and extortion network and subsequently called on Ghanaian authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.
The Police said Walid and Mane admitted their involvement during interrogation and provided information on their alleged roles in bringing Touré to Ghana.
Meanwhile, the Police are searching for two other suspects, Noukoubri Arzouma Sylviain, also known as Prince Pierre, and Barry.
Investigators believe the two wanted suspects played key roles in the group’s activities and are intensifying efforts to apprehend them.
Walid and Mane remain in Police custody and are expected to be processed for court.
