Two suspected military personnel and two civilian accomplices have been arrested by the Prestea Police in the Western Region for an alleged attempt to rob LongShine Mining Company Limited, a Chinese-owned firm, on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Prestea-Obouhu.
Confirming the incident on October 1, 2025, the company’s Public Relations Officer, Zion Rootman, said the suspects—two men in military uniforms and two masked civilians—stormed the site in a pickup truck.
The company quickly alerted the police, who moved in to arrest the suspects. They have since been transferred to the Tarkwa Regional Police Command for further investigation.
The suspects were first detained in Prestea before being transferred to the Tarkwa Divisional Police Command for further investigation. Police also seized a Toyota pickup, registered GN 6116-25, believed to have been used in the attempted robbery.
Eyewitnesses described terrifying scenes during the attack. A security guard told Prestea FM that some of the assailants, dressed in military uniforms, handcuffed workers, took their cash and phones, and demanded access to the company’s “gold room.”
Gideon Ofori, a Tailing Officer at the company, told Empire News that the suspects arrived in an unfamiliar vehicle and introduced themselves as National Security operatives from Accra. He said they requested the company’s mining permits and later attempted to extort money at gunpoint.
“When we refused to comply unless they returned what they had taken, we blocked their exit and called the police. That was when we realised they were criminals,” Ofori recounted.
