The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of a senior lecturer and his teaching assistant, who were killed in a road accident on Tuesday.
Dr. Kwabena Koforobour Agyemang of the Department of Geography and Regional Planning and his teaching assistant, Mr. Peter Amoadu-Asmah, reportedly lost their lives after being struck by a tipper truck at Third Ridge along the Cape Coast–Accra Highway.
In a statement, the university said it received news of the tragedy “with profound shock and deep sorrow.”
“The Management of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has received with profound shock and deep sorrow the untimely passing of one of its distinguished faculty members, Dr. Kwabena Koforobour Agyemang, and Mr. Peter Amoadu-Asmah, his teaching assistant,” the statement said.
It added that both men died in a tragic motor accident at Third Ridge on the Cape Coast–Accra Highway.
The statement, signed by the Acting Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Kwabena Antwi-Konadu, described Dr. Agyemang as a dedicated academic and a respected member of the university community, known for his contributions to teaching, research, and service.
Mr. Amoadu-Asmah, a National Service personnel and recent graduate of the department, was also praised for his academic excellence, having emerged as the overall best graduating student.
Call for sensitivity
The university extended condolences to the bereaved families and urged the public, particularly the media, to report the incident with sensitivity and restraint.
“Management and the entire University community extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time,” the statement added. “The University of Cape Coast appeals to the public, especially the media, to be circumspect and sensitive in their reportage.”
Profile: Dr. Kwabena Koforobour Agyemang
Dr. Agyemang served as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography and Regional Planning from February 2022 until his passing in April 2026. He previously taught in the same department between October 2009 and January 2022.
He earned his PhD in Geography and Regional Planning from UCC in 2019, following a master’s degree in the same field from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology between 1997 and 1999.
His professional career included roles as Senior Programme Officer at the Environmental Protection Agency (May 2000–March 2005), Development Planning Officer at the Atwima District Assembly (February 1996–June 2000), and Economics and Geography tutor with the Ghana Education Service (January 1993–January 1996). He also served as Director of GreenDev Solutions Limited from May 2008 to September 2009 and was the immediate past Senior Hall Tutor of Casely Hayford Hall, a position he held until July 31, 2025.

Mr. Amoadu-Asmah attended Methodist Senior High School from 2018 to 2021 before pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Regional Planning at UCC from November 2021 to December 2025.
