The former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has strongly defended the policies implemented by the erstwhile Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, which said cannot be surpassed by the current administration.
According to him, there is no policy that the NPP implemented in the past eight years in government that he is sorry about.
Dr Abdul-Hamid maintained that the NPP did its best to transform the country and improve the socioeconomic livelihood of the people hence there’s nothing to be sorry about.
NPP government implemented landmark polices like free Senior High School (SHS) education, One District, One Factory (1D1F), Planting for Food and Jobs; One Constituency, One Ambulance; and ‘Agenda 111’ which involved the construction of 88 District Hospitals as well as Regional and Psychiatric Hospitals.
Addressing NPP functionaries and supporters in Damongo during the ‘Thank You’ tour of the Savannah Region on Saturday, May 3, 2025, Dr Abdul-Hamid emphasised that there is nothing President John Dramani Mahama would ever do that would match anything that the NPP government did.
He described the Mahama administration as a highly confused government that will not make any difference for Ghanaians.
“Look, already see what is going on in governance today. They appoint somebody Chief Executive, tomorrow they change him and take him here. Tema Oil Refinery they appointed Kombat, the next week they removed and brought Sulemana, yesterday they removed Sulemana and brought bank Kombat– this is a confused government, they are not going anywhere,” the for NPA boss lampooned the Mahama administration.
Highlighting on the 2024 defeat of the party, Dr Abdul-Hamid who is also a Minister for Information called on the rank and file of the party not to be hard on themselves.
“Tell yourselves the truth, why were you saying break the 8, because you knew that it has never happened before – you were just trying to do the impossible and if you are trying an impossible thing and it hasn’t happened, why are you hard yourselves.
“Number two, you knew that no first time candidate has won an election in this fourth Republic, you know that, and you have done 8 years, you are presenting a new candidate and you didn’t win and you’re beating yourselves?” he queried.
Dr Abdul Hamid said he did not think that anybody was responsible for the loss of the party in the 2024 general election, stressing that nobody should be blamed for the defeat.
