The Northern Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Mohammed Abdul Salam, has welcome the ruling on both Zabzugu and Savelugu Parliamentary election petitions filed by the opposition party and the governing New Patriotic Party respectively.

“As we speak this ruling does not affect anything in Parliament. In sum, we can say that the status quo have been maintained by the court” he said.

The Tamale High Court presided by Justice Daniel Obeng affirmed the election of Iddrisu Abdulai Jacob as the NDC Member of Parliament for Savelugu which was challenged by the 2020 NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Abdul Samed Gunu, citing widespread irregularities.

The court also affirmed the election of NPP John Jabaah Bennam as the Zabzugu Member of Parliament and accordingly dismissed the petition filed by the NDC Umar Alhassan, the 2020 Parliamentary Candidate.

Addressing journalists in Tamale after the court determination, the NDC Secretary stated the numbers remains the same.

“We have our Savelugu seat, they have their Zabzugu seat. We’re satisfied with the outcomes, there’s no need to extend any further long processes as far this is concerned” he added.

According to Mohammed Abdul Salam, the NDC does not intend to appeal against the ruling of the Zabzugu verdict.
