Brilliant but needy students pursuing various professional courses in the Universities among other tertiary institutions have received financial support from the Member of Parliament for Yendi, Hon Farouk Aliu Mahama to enable them pay their fees among other academic expenses.

The lawmaker disbursed a total sum of two hundred and ten thousand Ghana cedis (GH₵210,000) to one hundred and twenty three (123) beneficiary students under the Farouk Aliu Mahama Educational Care Fund (FAMEC-Fund).

The 123 beneficiaries comprised of thirty-five (35) females and eighty-eight (88) males currently pursuing various courses at the country’s public universities and colleges of education including; Computer Science, Nursing, Midwifery, Pharmacy, Business Administration, Social Communication, Biochemistry, Diploma in Education, Statistics and Mathematics, Agricultural Sciences amongst others.

The legislator made the presentations to the students and their families at a short ceremony held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama in his remarks said that financial constraints have denied dozens of brilliant students’ access to tertiary education and forced these young Ghanaians to abandon their educational aspirations and settle for a life that is far below their potential.

He therefore instituted the MP’s Scholarship Scheme to bridge this gap and provide opportunities for growth and development in the Yendi constituency.

“Today, we are gathered here to witness the disbursement of these scholarship funds to the beneficiaries who have successfully demonstrated their commitment to academic excellence and their determination to overcome any obstacles that come their way. I must commend each and every one of them for their hard work and dedication, as well as their parents and guardians who have supported them along this journey.”

Farouk Mahama emphasized the scholarship is not just about the financial aid but however an effort to recognizing and celebrating talent, resilience, and the desire of the students to succeed in life.

He stressed by investing in these young individuals, “We are investing in the future of our constituency and our nation. We are creating a generation of educated and empowered individuals who will go on to make significant contributions in various fields, be it medicine, engineering, law, or any other sphere of academic pursuits.”

He thereby admonished the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity to pursue their dreams with passion and strive for excellence in everything they do.

“I want to reiterate my commitment to the development and education of the youth in our constituency. The MP’s Scholarship Scheme will continue to grow and expand, reaching even more deserving students in the years to come. Let us all work together to build a society where every child has equal access to quality education and equal opportunities for a bright future” he assured.

Meanwhile, the deputy Director of Ghana Education Service (GES) for the Yendi Municipality, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Habib, for his part commended the Member of Parliament for the gesture. He also entreated the students to be ambassadors of the goodwill of the legislator and apply the funds received judiciously.
