The Member of Parliament for Yendi, Hon Farouk Aliu Mahama, has presented agricultural inputs to over one thousand (1000) women in farming in the northern region through his Partnership for Poverty Eradication (PPR) nonprofit making organization.
The inputs included Knapsack Sprayers (450), 250 bags of fertilizer, Weedicides and Pesticides (700), Wellington Boots (450) and 500 cutlasses.
The legislature for past five years has been providing agricultural inputs and improved seedlings to increase crop yield in the Yendi municipality. However, he decided to extend the intervention to other women farmers in the Kpandai district, Nanumba North (Bimbila), Zabzugu, Tatale, Saboba, Gushegu and Karaga districts in the eastern corridor of the northern region.
The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya Naa Abukari II, in his remarks through the Gbewa Palace PRO commended the Yendi lawmaker for the numerous poverty alleviating and economic empowerment programs to bring development to the people under the MP’s New Yendi City project.
The King said the various developmental programs and projects being undertaken would not go unnoticed and expressed his excitement about the steps taken by the MP to reduce the impoverishment of the people and bring a facelift to the municipality.
He called on the people to give the MP their maximum support in order for him to discharge his mandate diligently, asserting “we’re lagging behind in terms of development because most often when someone is doing something good, we don’t support them but we’re always quick to castigate them when something little goes wrong”.
The Ya Naa further urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items provided so that the desired goal would be achieved at the end of the crop season.
Meanwhile, the legislator distributed inputs such knapsack sprayers, weedicides, pesticides, wellington boots and cutlasses to the farmers. Each farmer received a full consignment of the items.
In his remarks, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama said women play an essential role in the day to day socioeconomic activities of what we do as a nation and promised to continue lending his support for women empowerment in the Yendi community and the nation at large.
“Women are very critical in our endeavors and I feel sad to speak today because I lost my beloved mother, Hajia Ramatu Mahama, so I see every mother as very essential in the day to day activities of what we do” he said.
He assured the people of his full commitment to ensure the new Yendi City project receive it share of national development and thanked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the various projects being implemented in the area.
Warehouse Project
He announced an ultra-modern warehouse facility will be constructed in the coming months to store farm produce of farmers in the area in order to create job opportunities and revenue for the people.
He disclosed the Partnership for Poverty Eradication NGO will begin a 300 acre farming this season and would also buy from farmers who are unable to access the market in the bit to ensure Yendi becomes the food basket for Africa.
