The Young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF) of the Inter-Parliamentary Union has expressed gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his expression of trust in young Members of Parliament (MPs) playing key roles in his government.
According to the Forum, the President’s appointment of young MPs to form part of his government buttresses his resolve in building a better future with deserving youth ambassadors.
A statement signed by its Vice President, Betty Nana Afua Krosbi Mensah, MP for Afram Plains North, commended the President for following the examples of his predecessors and believing in young people.
Young and determined MPs who have been nominated and subsequently assumed various Ministerial portfolios after Parliamentary approvals include Sarah Adwoa Safo, MP for Dome Kwabenya and Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection; Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, MP for Ofoase Ayirebi and Minister for Information; Mr Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, Member of Parliament for Damongo and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources; and Mr Francis Asenso-Boakye, MP for Bantama and Minister for Works and Housing.
Betty Krosbi expressed delight that the President has also nominated the Forum’s resourceful President, Mr George Mireku Duker, MP for Tarkwa- Nsuaem as Deputy Minister-Designate for Lands and Natural Resources.
“Hon. Mireku Duker’s versatility, dedication and exemplary leadership qualities have earned him several successes in his political career, which we are proud of.
“Other hardworking Members of the Forum nominated by the President include Hon. Mavis Nkansa Boadu, MP for Afigya Sekyere East as Deputy Minister-Designate for Roads and Highways; Hon. Nana Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, MP for Akwapim North, Deputy Minister-Designate for Trade and Industry; Hon John Ntim Fodjour, MP for Assin North, Deputy Minister-Designate for Education among others,” the statement noted.
The Forum reminded the young appointees that they are proof that good things come to those who are willing to sacrifice to achieve higher goals because their new designations would be a good match for their skills and dedication.
The leadership and members of the YPF, the Vice President said, are hopeful that the opportunity given to these young men and women would go a long way in strengthening and increasing the quantitative and qualitative participation of the Ghanaian youth in order to eradicate poverty, foster growth and ensure the youth remain the most critical and influencing stakeholder in national development.
“We urge you to keep working hard and give off your best to lift the image of Young Parliamentarians Forum high.
“We are certain that the President would be pleased to see you accomplishing greater heights for the youth of the country and this, we believe, would serve as a guide for future appointments,” she said.
