The Chief of Zakoli, Naa Abukari Andani, has admonished government officials to allow the Ghana Police Service free hands to investigate the attack that led to the killing of eight nomadic herdsmen last Wednesday, April 13, 2022 in the Yendi munipality.
He said politicians should stay off the matter and allow due process followed to get to the bottom of the heinous act perpetuated on the innocent people.
“…If they make a mistake and the issue is not investigated, what will happen, will be more disastrous than what just happened. They hear a lot just as we also hear a lot and if we have peace, then it’s you and if we also have sleepless night, it’s you again” Naa Andani vehemently stated.
The Chief made the remarks when Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, visited the village on Sunday to empathize with the bereaved families and to ascertain the extent of mayhem caused.
“I want to tell the Vice President that the rumors circulating that the Fulani people went to cause the trouble is false. Some of them were even sleeping when they were shot and killed by the attackers’ broad day light around this same period” he narrated.
He continued, “I went to Yendi to charge my mobile phone because there is no electricity here, then, I had a call that some people invaded my community, so, Mr. Vice President, come my aid. I make an appeal to you that, empower the police to thoroughly investigate it but government officials should wash their hands off from the matter and the security their work to get the culprits”.
The deceased persons have been identified as follows: Alhaji Baako, Mallam Osman, Saibu Wubi, and three siblings who were also killed – Umar Jallo, 30, Kadir Jallo, 24, and Yahaya Jallo, 27. The identity of the last person according to police was yet to be known.
Calm has since return to the community but the aggrieved people are yet to come to terms with what happened.
