Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central Patrick Yaw Boamah has charged delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to brace themselves for the 2020 elections immediately after the Parliamentary primaries.
The December elections, he said, would be so keenly contested that it will surpass 2016 hence the need to adopt new attitudes as Derby Day approaches.
The MP made the call when delegates of the Okaikwei Central constituency endorsed him by popular acclamation to contest the 2020 Parliamentary elections on the ticket of the ruling NPP.
Mr. Boamah went unopposed as he was the only person who picked and successfully filed his nomination to contest the primaries.
He would be contesting the national elections for the third time.
Lawmaker won the 2012 election and was re-elected in 2016 to remain in Parliament.
In compliance with the COVID-19 protocols on large gathering, however, the constituency conducted the acclamation exercise in all the five electoral areas namely Apenkwa, Blema Gor, Gbemomo, Wouyeman and Olengle Koona.
The candidate-elect visited all the venues in the company of an Electoral Officer, the Constituency Chairman, and a representative from the regional and national party among others to be proclaimed.
Speaking to delegates after being pronounced the parliamentary candidate, Yaw Patrick Boamah cautioned the NPP not to be complacent in the effort to retain party in power.
According to him, judging from the massive performance of President Akufo-Addo, the government deserve another term in office hence the need to hold off the opposition NDC.
He urged delegates and party members to discard all the differences that emerged in the run up to the primaries and to shun complaints and bickering about what they have or have not received from the party.
“Put the complaints aside for now because God has scheduled the time for everything.”
“Let’s use unity, love and togetherness to campaign and go from house to house to promote four more for Nana and four more for Patrick.”
“Present yourselves to participate when the party’s campaign programmes come out,” he stated.
He indicated it is going to be a very busy six months ahead of the elections and urged the delegates to go out in their numbers to register when the Electoral Commission begin the voter registration exercise.
He warned that the only way to participate in the election and vote is to be in the new register hence the need to take part in the exercise.
Ghanaians, he said, are expecting only one announcement after December 7, and that is the declaration of Nana Akufo-Addo as President of Ghana.
“By December 8th, the EC would have declared Nana Akufo-Addo as the President-elect and Patrick Boamah as the Okaikwei Central Member of Parliament,” he added.
