The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA) has handed a three unit classroom block and an office complex to the management of the Bethany Primary School in Tamale.  The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale, Mr. Iddrisu Musah Superior at a short ceremony on Thursday, 10 September, 2020 commissioned the newly constructed project for use.

The Tamale Mayor explained the construction of the project forms part of the Akufo-Addo government’s determination to expand infrastructure and improve access to education at the basic level in the metropolis and Ghana as a whole.

He commended the Headmistress and the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the school for being forceful to lobby for the project for more than a year.

He said the agenda of the government is to educate every young person in Ghana to scale up growth and development in the country, adding, that is why the president is offering free senior high school education.

“And if you are offering free SHS then you should make sure that the basic level is correct, you need to provide infrastructure so that people can be encouraged to do basic education and have the opportunity to go for senior high school”

On the maintenance culture of the facility, the Mayor advised the school authority to always be vigilant and report any fault to the metropolitan assembly for rectification.

Headmistress of the Bethany Primary School, Madam Juliana Bawa Akami

Headmistress of the school, Madam Juliana Bawa Akami for her part, thanked the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and the government for the school block. However, she lamented another major bottleneck affecting effective teaching and learning is inadequate furniture.

She said only the Junior High School has sufficient furniture for now but lamented that the primary school and kindergarten blocks still lack furniture, adding that majority of the children sit on mats and the bare floor, a situation she said makes effective teaching and learning inconvenient in the school.
