The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Lawyer Hassan S. Tampuli has presented his nomination form to the Electoral Commission to contest the 7 December parliamentary elections in the Gushegu constituency in the northern region on the ticket of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) with the pledge to promote the development of the area.
Mr. Tampuli was accompanied to the EC municipal office on Wednesday by the Gushegu Municipal Chief Executive, the NPP Constituency Executives and hundreds of party faithful to file the nomination form.
The NPA Boss was unanimously acclaimed as the NPP’s 2020 parliamentary candidate after the incumbent Member of Parliament, Dr Ziblim Iddi and his contender in separate letters to the party withdrew from parliamentary primary some few months ago.
The Gushegu Municipal EC officer, Mr. Osei Bonsu received the document after he inspected the document to ensure the NPP candidate met the requirements to contest in the 2020 general election.
Speaking to the journalists after filing his nomination, the NPP Member of Parliament hopeful explained why he had to stay off the media space after his acclamation.
He said he had to visit all the communities in the constituency to listen to the needs of the people and fashion out a manifesto to respond to the people’s aspirations.
Accordingly, Mr. Tampuli indicated a lot has been done to address some of the challenges in the last three months in the areas of roads and providing portable drinking water.
He emphasised that several kilometres of roads have been given a facelift and about 16 boreholes drilled in the constituency.
Mr Tampuli added 44 more of the borehole projects are ongoing and would be completed before the December general election to alleviate the plight of the people as far as issues of water is concerned.
The NPA Chief Executive said some communities have also been connected to the national electricity grid whilst others have just received their equipment for the project to commence.
Improving education
On improving quality education in the Gushegu municipality, Lawyer Hassan Tampuli said he had provided 1, 400 dual desks to be distributed to basic schools in the area and also renovated 8 school blocks even before becoming NPP Candidate.
Meanwhile, Paramount Chief of Gushegu, Naa Abdulai Mahamudu Shitobu urged all political parties to campaign devoid of insults.
He challenged the politicians to campaign on programmes and activities that will bridge the development gap in the municipality.
