Forty-four Nigerian Ex-convicts have been deported from Ghana after they have been released from the Tamale Central prisons in the northern region.

The number included 43 males and a female who were convicted by the district Court in Navorongo in the Upper East region some time back.

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) in collaboration with the Ghana Prison Service carried out the exercise in Tamale over the weekend.

Chief Superintendent Ocloo Divine explained in an exclusive interview with THE CUSTODIAN that, all the prisoners did not have the necessary documents to stay in Ghana and therefore were convicted for unlawful entry into the country.

He said each of them (Ex-convicts) was given a three month jail term to serve in Ghana.

However, THE CUSTODIAN has gathered that the court ordered the repatriation of the prisoners back to their country when they completed their jail service.

Accordingly, the ex-convicts were transported to Accra on Saturday for further actions to be taken for their deportation.

Advice

Chief Superintendent Ocloo said the country is governed by laws and therefore advised foreign nationals coming into the country to be mindful about that.

He emphasized the need for foreigners to have the relevant permits before entering the country.
