Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, Karaga MP donated free laptops to teachers in his constituency

Deputy Minister for Energy who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Karaga constituency in the Northern Region, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam has distributed 50 free laptops to teachers in the district.

The donation was done under the auspices of the Anta Education Fund in fulfillment of his One Teacher, One Laptop initiative.

The lawmaker also organised a two-day Computer Literacy Training Workshop for the beneficiary teachers to empower their capacity for effective and quality teaching and learning.

The Karaga MP is out to cover the entire teacher population in the District numbering about 700.

This initiative is intended to promote ICT education for both teachers and students.

The capacity-building workshop comes at the back of the MP partnering with Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) to establish computer laboratories in the Nyong Junior High, Tamalgu Junior High, Hassaniya D/A Junior High in Pishigu and Karaga D/A Junior High Schools in the district.

Each of the laboratories is equipped with 10 desktop computers to enable adequate training of the students to be able to compete with their peers in the country.

The Deputy Energy Minister in a media interaction expressed confidence that the intended purpose and objectives of the training would be met though it is just for two days.

Prior to the 2020 general election, Dr Amin Adam made a promise to give each teacher a laptop computer in the district.

He explained the promise was made out of his deep conviction that computer literacy has become very key in the success of education in the country, adding, Karaga being part of Ghana, we will also deserve to have access to computers to acquire computer knowledge.

He therefore urged the first group of beneficiary teachers to adequately use the computers to impart the needed knowledge on their students whether at the basic level or Senior High School level.

Dr Amin Adam emphasized this would be the only way the programme will become a meaningful investment.

“The other reason I introduced the programme is this, most of us have gone to the universities and when you go to the universities today, computers are used for research, for learning and even for exams. In this Covid-19 era, people were doing exams virtually and if you didn’t have a computer, you were in trouble and this is the other reason I thought the programme was important” he explained.

Donation to police

The Karaga MP also donated five motorbikes to the Northern Region Police Command to support Crime Combat in Karaga.

“Yesterday, I received briefs on the operations by the police force against armed robberies in parts of the Karaga constituency. I am happy that we are achieving good results. However, we have to sustain the gains and ensure that the area is secure and safe for traders and farmers to carry on with their work. In support of these efforts by the Police, I made a modest donation of 5 motor bikes to the Police Command.

“It is also refreshing to note that we have commenced the construction of one of the 3 Police Stations we plan to build along the three entry points to Karaga from Tamale to support the infrastructure needs of the Police. Let’s support and cooperate with our hardworking police force for our own security and development,” Dr Amin Adam posted on his Facebook wall.
