The police administration of Ghana has interdicted four officers of the service with immediate effect for their unprofessional conduct whilst they were assigned to assist the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO/VRA) arrest persons allegedly involved in illegal connection in parts of Tamale.

The embattled police officers were captured in viral video visiting mayhem on residents of Nakpanzoo, suburb of the Tamale metropolis, on Monday (20 September, 2021) for alleged power theft.

Though the names of the officers are not readily available, however, Acting Director-General and Public Affairs, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Kwesi Ofori in statement confirmed the four persons are working with the Tamale Regional Police Command.

The uniform men were seen in separate videos without any form of provocation whipping the suspects and physically manhandling them even though some of the people struggled to explain issues to the police personnel. The irate officers were adamant to heed to their explanation from the public.

Consequent to that, the statement said the officers will face a Service Inquiry, subject to the regulations of the Ghana Police Service.

ACP Kwesi Ofori disclosed the processes have commenced to identify the victims for the necessary medical assessment and assistance.

“We apologize unconditionally to the affected persons and the general public” the statement added.
