The newly elected Metropolitan Chief Executive for Tamale, Hon Sule Salifu, has promised to operate an open administration during his tenure in office. He said all ideas and initiatives aimed at propelling the development and growth of the Tamale metropolis are welcome and that people must not hesitate to call on him.
He noted that, “Let us shelve our political and parochial interest, and work together as a team with a common goal of getting our people out of poverty.
Undoubtedly, you have the opportunity to be in the assembly system before me, so I hope to count on you for guidance and support for the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly to achieve the desired goals. I wish to assure you of open door administration and therefore no one should hesitate to come to me with any idea or initiative he/she seeks to propel the development of the metropolis.”
The Tamale Mayor made these remarks in his acceptance speech when assembly members of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly confirmed his nomination by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
He further expressed gratitude to President Nana Akufo-Addo for his nomination to occupy the enviable position in the Tamale Metropolis.
“I wish to assure you, Your Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana that, I will not let you down for the confidence and trust reposed in him as your representative. That notwithstanding, I also wish to thank my Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu, the Regional and Constituency Executives of the New Patriotic Party for rallying support behind me for my nomination and confirmation and I hope that fraternal support will continue to grow from strength to strength for a united party” he added.
The Tamale Chief Executive also thanked the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya Naa Abukari II and other traditional and religious leaders for throwing their weight behind to become the MCE.
“I hope to seek their wise counsel in the administration of the assembly for our collective goal. Also, I wish to acknowledge our colleagues from the other political parties, especially, the NDC party who have demonstrated maturity by their immense support and cooperation following my nomination and subsequent confirmation, I say thank you very much and God bless us all” Mr. Sule Salifu prayed.
Meanwhile, the President’s nominee pulled 40 votes representing 68% out of a total vote cast of 59 on Thursday (30 September, 2021) to become the Mayor of the fastest growing city in the country. Seventeen (17) of the 59 assembly members who were present during the polls voted against the nominee and two ballots were rejected.
The Tamale Magistrate Judge, His Lordship Amadu Issifu immediately sworn him into office and further administered the Oath of Office, Oath of Secrecy and the Oath of Allegiance to the state.
Mr. Sule Salifu would now succeed Musah Iddrisu Superior, who conspicuously failed to appear to witness the endorsement of his successor appointed by the same President who gave him (Musah Iddrisu Superior) the opportunity to serve the people of Tamale in the first term of the Akufo-Addo led NPP government.
