The ordination of two auxiliary bishops for the Accra Archdiocese of the Catholic Church will, among others, help to boost evangelisation, Very Rev Raymond Osei Tutu, chancellor of the Accra Archdiocese of the church, has said.
Pope Francis, in February appointed two auxiliary bishops namely Anthony Narh Asare and John Kobina Louis for the Accra Archdiocese of the Catholic church.
Speaking to Rev Akua Ofori Boateng on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (18 April) ahead of the Episcopal Ordination of the two bishops at the Holy Spirit Cathedral on Wednesday, Very Rev Osei-Tutu said the two auxiliary bishops will not usurp the role of the current archbishop.
“The two bishops are not substituting or co-sharing his very authority as the bishop of Accra. They are there and their functions will be to complement the effort of the bishop.
“The bishop can now have three confirmations, so that the work of evangelisation will not be stagnant just by human factor,” Osei-Tutu said.
The ordination will be broadcast live on Asaase Radio 99.5 FM on Wednesday (19 April) from 9:30am with the host of The Word, Rev Akua Ofori Boateng.
About Anthony Narh Asare
Monsignor Anthony Narh Asare was born on 29 December 1965 at Agomanya, Eastern Region.
He studied at Tema Secondary School where he obtained his O-Level. He continued to Labone Secondary School in Accra where he obtained his A-Level. In 1988, he obtained a certificate in insurance and project management.
He had his ecclesiastical studies and seminary formation at St. Paul’s Catholic Seminary, Accra and at St. Peter’s Regional Seminary, Pedu in Cape Coast.
In 1993, he obtained his Diploma in Theology at the University of Ghana, Legon.
He holds the following degrees and certificates: MA in Management from Dublin City University, Ireland, 2008-2009; MA in Leadership and Pastoral Care – DOU, Ireland, 2009-2010; MAP: Masters in Supervisory Practice – DCU, Ireland, 2010.

On 14 February 2023, His Holiness Pope Francis appointed him auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Accra and is assigned the Titular Scat of Castello di Numidia (Castellanes in Numidia), pr. Numidia.
About John Kobina Louis
John Kobina Louis is one of the newly announced auxiliary bishop-elect of the Archdiocese of Accra. Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Accra. He was born on the 24 November 1964 to Vincent Louis and Catherine Esi Dede Louis.
He had his basic education at the Roman Catholic Basic School, Nima-Accra and went to St. Augustine’s College in Cape Coast from 1978 to 1985. He was ordained a priest on 18 July 1992 after his priestly training by the late Dominic Kodwo Andoh.
He also had his BA in Religious Studies and Sociology at the University of Ghana from 1988 to 1991. Between 2002 and 2004, Louis studied at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome and obtained a Licentiate in Sacred Theology.
He obtained a certificate in Financial Management and Budgeting in 1996 from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, Accra.
He is currently the acting president of the Catholic Institute of Business and Technology. He is also a lecturer and the academic dean of the Catholic Institute of Business and Technology, Accra.
Louis served in various sectors of the archdiocese of Accra. From 2006 to 2012, he was the cathedral administrator at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra. From 2004 to 2006 he was the associate cathedral administrator at the Holy Spirit Cathedral.
From 1998 to 2002 he was the parish priest of the St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Tema.
From 1997 to 2002 he was the director of pastoral centre, Accra Archdiocese.
From 1996 to 2002 he was the financial administrator of the Accra Archdiocese.
From 1995 to 1998 he was the priest-in-charge of the St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Tema.
From 1992 to 1995 he was the assistant parish priest of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Tema.

An auxiliary bishop is a bishop appointed to assist a diocesan bishop, whether in a diocese or archdiocese. His title is bishop.
The role of the auxiliary bishop is to assist the diocesan bishop in all matters related to the clergy, religion and laity.
