President Nana Akufo-Addo’s government is fulfiling its promise to construct the neglected Asomdwee Park where late President J. E. A. Mills was buried.
It would be recalled that in 2020, the President pledged to put the Asomdwee Park in shape after years of neglect by the John Dramani Mahama administration.
Accordingly, during the 8th Anniversary Remembrance Service for Prof. Mills on July 24, 2020, Chief Executive Officer of the Coastal Development Authority (CODA), Mr. Jerry Ahmed Shaib was joined by Mr. Samuel Koku Anyidoho, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Atta-Mills Institute (AMl), to break grounds for the construction of Asomdwee Park.
Under the auspices of CODA and AMI, President Akufo-Addo’s administration is earnestly preparing to give the 10th Anniversary Memorial Service of the late President Atta-Mills, a touch of excellence.
President Mills died on Tuesday July 24, 2012 and his mortal remains were laid on August 10, at the Asomdwee Park.
Regrettably, for the four and half years that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration led by John Dramani Mahama was in power after the death of President Atta-Mills, no attention was paid to the development of the Asomdwee Park to honour the memory of the late president who led the party to victory in 2008.
Over the years, it took the Atta-Mills Institute led by Koku Anyidoho, with the support of his team and well-wishers, to yearly keep the Asomdwee Park clean for the anniversary activities.
With a deep desire for the Asomdwee Park to not only honour the memory of President Atta-Mills, but to also give the nation a better image, the Atta-Mills Institute approached the Administration of President Akufo-Addo for support.
Thanks to the forward-looking and all-embracing leadership style of President Akufo-Addo, CODA was given the go-ahead to lead the construction of Asomdwee Park.
On Sunday, July 24 this year, President Akufo-Addo is expected to lead the nation to hold the 10th Anniversary Remembrance Service of President Atta-Mills, at the Asomdwee Park.
He will also take the opportunity to commission the reconstructed Asomdwee Park.
