The New Patriotic Party Northern Regional Communications Director, Mr. Yussif Sayibu Danjuma has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to consider elevating the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mohammed Hardi Tuferu to the substantive position following the resignation of the sector Minister, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
“It wouldn’t be out place if His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to elevate the Deputy Minister and MP for Nanton, Hon Hardi Tuferu, to the position of a substantive Minister in charge of Food and Agriculture.”
He argues that the latter would be suitable for the position because as someone coming from a typical farming constituency, he understands the plight of the ordinary Ghanaian farmer out there.
According to him, the lawmaker has demonstrated he is feet for the job having work closely and tapped into the wide range of experience of the outgoing Minister.
“And as a young energetic and intelligent person who has his eyes on the ball, he has learnt on the job, he has demonstrated that he’s learnt on the job and can fit into the big shoes left by Dr Afriyie Akoto as the Minister for Agriculture” he emphasized.
Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto rendered his resignation letter to the President last week to lace his boots for the impending NPP Presidential primaries.
The latter is the second Minister of State under the Akufo-Addo government to resign from his job after the Trade and Industry Minister, Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten also formally presented his resignation letter to the President.
Mr. Danjuma in an exclusive interview said the northern region would be very grateful for Nana Akufo-Addo to elevate the Deputy Minister who was only appointed to serve in the second term of the NPP government.
He maintained the two-term legislature has a lot to offer the food and agricultural sector when he is given the opportunity and prayed the President to reposed his trust and mandate in him.
