The Northern Regional Communications Director - Abdul-Ganew Sandow

The Director of Communications of the opposition National Democratic Congress in the northern region has japed to the defense of the embattled Tamale South lawmaker, Haruna Iddrisu.

According to Mr. Abdul-Ganew Sandow, the decision of the National Chairman and the General Secretary of the NDC to remove Mr. Iddrisu as the Minority Leader of Parliament is untenable.

This comes on the back of the shakeup of the leadership bench on the NDC side of Parliament on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.

The decision was contained in a letter signed by Mr. Fiifi Fiave Kwetey, the Chief Scribe of the opposition party announcing the replacement of the Haruna led team.

The MP for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Constituency who served as a Deputy Finance Minister under the erstwhile Mahama government, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has been selected as the new Minority Leader and he would be deputized by Hon Kofi Armah Buah, the MP for Ellembelle Constituency.

Hon Kwame Agbodza now takes over from the Member of Parliament for Asawase, Alhaji Mubarak Muntaka as the Minority Whip.

The party has however maintained Ahmed Ibrahim Banda and Comfort Doyo Ghansah as the Deputy Whips for the minority caucus.

Reacting to the development on his Facebook page, Abdul-Ganew Sandow who is a known activist of the former Minority Leader wrote: “Untenable reasons adduced by National Chairman and Secretary. #posterity”.

Meanwhile, other stalwarts of the National Democratic Congress have also criticized the national leadership for taking such a decision.

Some Members of the NDC caucus in Parliament among prominent figures of the party have reprimanded the party hierarchy stating the decision is untimely and unpopular and would therefore be a recipe for acrimony in Parliament.
