Former President John Dramani Mahama is increasingly losing his popularity among members of the National Democratic Congress in the northern region.

There is growing speculations in the northern regional capital that Mr. Mahama is well aware of the decision taken by the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Aseidu Nketia and General Secretary, Fiifi Kwetey to remove the Tamale South Lawmaker, Haruna Iddrisu, as the Minority Leader of Parliament.

The Coalition of NDC Youth Groups in Tamale at a news conference on Wednesday (January 25, 2023) said the embattled Tamale South Legislator remains their role model in the NDC.

According to the group, the decision to reshuffle the Haruna led leadership is not just shameful, harmful, evil and wicked decision taken by party executives but also a practice of tyranny and autocratic in a democratic dispensation by Mr. Aseidu Nketia and Full Kwatey.

“We once again want to state emphatically and unequivocally that Hon. Haruna Iddrisu remain our Role Model as Youth in the Northern Region and we look forward to see him progress and no amount of verification and intimidation will bring him down.”

Addressing Journalists, spokesperson of the NDC Youth, Sayibu Abdul Rahaman said the party should prepare to continue to be in opposition with their self-seeking and parochial interest.

The NDC Youth categorically stated, “We will not compromise Hon. Haruna Iddrisu in place of anybody in the party, not even the Formal President”.

Other aggrieved members of the party had earlier on Tuesday made besieged the Tamale South NDC Constituency Office to protest against the decision.

The group threatened to vote skirt and blouse if the former Minority Leader was not reinstated to the position in Parliament.

They also warned the National Chairman and General Secretary not to step foot into Tamale and called on the former President to call on the national executives to order.
