The kingmakers of the Gonja Traditional Kingdom have selected the Paramount Chief Tulwe, Tulwewura Amonebafe Borenasa I as the new Yagbowura, King and Overlord of the Gonjaland in accordance with the customs and traditions.
The announcement comes after the successful funeral rites of the late King of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Tuntumba Jakpa Boresa I on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at Damongo, the Savannah Regional capital.
President of the Gonjaland Youth Association, Lawyer Mohammad Amin Osman, in a statement copied to THE CUSTODIAN confirmed the selection of the new Yagbowura.
“The announcement was made by the Acting Head of the Gonja Kingdom His Royal Majesty Sonyowura Kanyiti I. The kingdom received this announcement with lots of excitements and jubilations from all the Chiefs, the youth and the general public across the kingdom” the statement said.
The Gonjaland Youth Association has also commended the Kingmakers under the leadership of Sonyowura Kanyiti I for upholding the culture and tradition of Gonja.
The President said the youth association believes the selection of the next king demonstrates the strength of the kingdom to ensure peace and development in Gonjaland.
“We the youth of Gonjaland will not relent in our efforts to support the kingdom in all aspects of our tradition and culture. Indeed, Gonjaland is our Kingdom and the kingdom of our Great Founder Sumaila Ndewura Jakpa will reign supreme.”
“Jira, TULWEWURA AMONABAFE BORENASA I, we congratulate you and the entire Kingdom and we pledge our allegiance and support to you and Almighty Allah will be your guide” the President assured.
