A new fire post has been commissioned to start operations in the Saboba District of the Northern Region.

The commissioning took place on Friday, May 5, 2023, as part of activities to commemorate this year’s International Firefighters Day (IFFD).

The Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, ACFOI James Nkrah, expressed his appreciation to the DCE and the assembly for providing the facility for the establishment of the new fire post.

He said this will go a long way towards boosting investor confidence in the area because they know that after investing in the district, the fire service is there to protect their investment from the ravages of fire.

He added that this year alone, the command has managed to extend the service coverage by opening two more fire stations in Tolon and the Saboba Fire Posts to add to the already existing fire stations in the region.
The Regional commander also said Kpandai and Kumbungu districts will soon be commissioned too.
He however appealed to the remaining districts without fire stations to also provide office accommodations to be used as fire stations for the service to continue to provide fire cover and also reduce response time.

“The cost of a fully functioning fire station is huge, but its absence in a community has a greater consequential cost for that community and the government,” he said.

ACFOI James Nkrah, on behalf of the Chief Fire Officer, thanked the DCE and the District Assembly for their immense support, commitment, and contribution to the establishment of the station.

The District Chief Executive, George Biingrinni, on behalf of the district, handed over the facility to the regional commander, who also entrusted it under the care of the newly appointed District Fire Officer, ADOI Yussif Issahaku

The DCE further thanked the Regional Commander for finally seeing to it that a new fire station is opened in the Saboba district and pledged full cooperation and support to the office.

ADOI Yussif Issahaku, the District Fire Officer of the district, expressed his appreciation to the Regional Commander for his confidence in him and pledged not to disappoint him, the service, and the good people of the Saboba District.
