His Majesty Ya Naa Abukari II, the King and Overlord of Dagbon, has praised the conduct of Mr. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as Speaker of Parliament.  

According to him, Mr. Bagbin has so far in the discharged of his duties diligently and has also demonstrated neutrality and fairness on the floor of Parliament as leader of the legislature.  

Ndan Ya Naa noted the election of the Speaker who is a member outside the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) shows how matured the country’s democracy has become since 1992.  

“You have demonstrated that your election was purely based on merit and nothing else. I’m highly impressed about your neutrality and fairness on the floor of Parliament” he added.  

The Dagbon Overlord further thanked the 275 members of Parliament for reposing confidence in the former Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo constituency in the Upper West Region who until his ascension to the number three position of the country was the longest serving MP in Ghana.  

“I believe the rich experience you have garnered over the years and your neutrality as speaker of the august house is the reason we do not often hear “order! order!”  

Meanwhile, the Speaker of Parliament paid a courtesy to the Ya Naa to interact with him and his subjects on the 30th anniversary of multiparty democracy in Ghana.  

The Speaker said the three decades uninterrupted parliamentary practice has been a remarkable achievement worthy of celebration and urged the traditional leaders to provide ideas and wise counsel to transform the democracy into a more inclusive one.
