Nana Kwadofrakye V, Mankrado of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Council

The Mankrado of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Council, Nana Kwadofrakye V, has observed the that so many people have moved from Accra to Gomoa Potsin and its surrounding areas thereby putting a lot of pressure on the little social amenities in the area before the mass exodus of people from the city to the place.

He said the mass exodus is as a result of shortage of lands in Accra and its surrounding areas.

Nana Kwadofrakye explained that due to the influx of all forms of people who have come to the area, there is the urgent need to increase the number police stations and personnel in the area to provide the needed security for the people.

Speaking to journalists at a news briefing on developmental issues of his town, Gomoa Potsin at the weekend, the Chief appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to provide the necessary logistics to the Police in the area to be more efficient in the discharge of their duties.

The Chief further stated that, the Police are doing well but they are not many as compared to the large number of people who are settling in the area now.

He said formerly one effective way of checking criminals in the area is the mounting of check points and barriers but now the barriers have been reduced although activities of criminals still pertain.

Touching on the poor road network of the entire Gomoa area specifically that of Potsin, Nana Kwadofrakye V, noted that they have said a lot about it, but nothing is being done to solve the problem.

He said he once remarked that looking at things the state cannot do anything about it, and that many did not agree with him, but he still believes that nothing can be done about the poor state of roads in the area by state authorities.

The Chief noted however that he stands to be disproved by the state if they disagree with his position that the Government cannot and would not construct their roads for them, by the state coming out boldly to construct the roads.

He said roads in the entire Gomoa East, particularly his area which is Gomoa Potsin area is full of manholes and even sokaways so to speak.

Nana Kwadofrakye V called on the District Chief Executive of Gomoa East and Member of Parliament of the area to team up and lobby strongly to get their roads constructed as early as possible.

He also appealed to the current hard working Minister for Roads and Transport to facilitate the early construction of their deplorable roads.

On Education, Nana Kwadofrakye V, noted that due to the influx of people to their area and population explosion there, schools are choked, explaining that classrooms in Kojo Oku, Nkwantanan, Potsin and many other neighbouring Gomoa towns are choked for which urgent expansion of classrooms must be considered with immediate effect.

He has pleaded with the authorities to provide the areas mentioned above with educational facilities as education is very important as it guarantees a better future for the youth.

Nana Kwadofrakye V said now Gomoa Potsin area is no more a Village but an urban area that deserves municipal status as one can hardly get Agricultural land for farming as it used to be in the past.

It is because of this that, schooling has to be taken more seriously for the future to be secure for the youth as agric lands have been used for real estate projects.

The Chief emphasized that the issue of congestion of classrooms in the area is a matter of grave concern to the Chiefs and people for which they want the government to intervene to address the matter as soon as possible.
