Residents of Racecourse and Tabora can now heave a sigh of relief as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ga Central Municipal Assembly; Mohammed Bashiru Kamara has cut tape to formally commission a newly constructed bridge.

This comes two months after the MCE had officially cut sod on July 3, 2023, for the commencement of the construction of a bridge which had become very necessary after a makeshift wooden footbridge had been washed away during a heavy downpour.

The brief but significant exercise saw the MCE operate the excavator which was subsequently used by the engineers on the project site.

The commissioning of the bridge was witnessed by the Municipal Coordinating Director, John Owusu Donkor, Assembly member for Kwashiebu electoral area, Asafo Adjei, Assembly member for Nii Okaiman West, Fiifi Tawiah Graham, Chairman of the Racecourse Landlords Association, unit committee members, heads of department and residents of both Tabora and Racecourse.

In media interview,   Kamara, who could not hide his admiration for the contractor, commended him for being efficient, building a bridge which is fit for purpose and completing the project even before the estimated time of completion.

“The assembly is concerned about the welfare of residents especially school children who had to virtually walk through the stream to get to the other side irrespective of the danger it posed, I am very much pleased that we are here today to commission this bridge”, he said.

He said the bridge is fit to serve a dual purpose where pedestrians and vehicles will be able use to get access to the adjoining communities much easier and faster.

Bashiru while touting the current government’s achievement, went on to say that the project is an intervention from government to help resolve a pertinent concern.

He said the Akufo-Addo – Bawumia led government has been proactive when it comes to roads and was hopeful that very soon other areas will receive massive facelift in terms of road infrastructure amongst others.

He therefore advised residents living in other communities to desist from going on needless demonstrations to vent their frustrations but rather use dialogue as a means of resolving issues.

Assembly member for Racecourse, Kwashiebu, Asafo Adjei, highlighted the situation that existed before the construction of the bridge.

He said, as assembly members, this project serves as one of their major achievements and was very happy to be associated with it.

Adjei said that he visited the MCE’s office quite a number of times in relation to this project and today he is all smiles because the concerns of his people has be resolved.

The Assembly member then went on to highlight other challenges such as inadequate streetlights, bad roads and pleaded with the assembly to help in that regard.

The Assembly member for the neighboring community, Fiifi Tawiah Graham, also thanked the assembly for the good work done and pleaded with the MCE to also help with resolving other developmental challenges in the Nii Okaiman West electoral area.

Significantly, the MCE’s vehicle was the first to access the bridge after the commissioning.
