Work is expected to commence in the coming days to give a facelift to inner city roads in the Yendi municipality in the Northern Region. The Member of Parliament for Yendi, Hon Farouk Aliu Mahama, will cut the sod on Saturday, September 30, 2023, for the project to kick start.

The project is a total 7.5 kilometer asphaltic overlay to improve the road network within the traditional capital of the Dagbon State.

The latest project comes to add to the ongoing massive infrastructure development aimed at improving the road network by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia led government to boost socioeconomic activities in the Yendi municipality.

The beneficiary communities include the 5.5km Nayilifong-Gukpegu road, Waayili road, 1km and Kumfong inner road, 1kilometer.

Mr. Farouk Mahama believes the project will not only contribute to the overall development of the municipality but also improve quality of life of the people. He indicated the cutting of the sod for the construction of Yendi inner city roads is a significant milestone in his quest to bring progress and prosperity to the area.  

“The construction of the Nayillifong-Kumfong road after many years of back and forth is a crucial step towards fulfilling a major commitment to the people of Nayillifong” he said.

The Yendi legislator also reiterated his commitment and dedication to improve the socioeconomic welfare of his constituents.

“As the construction work commences, it is expected that the project will be implemented efficiently, ensuring that the roads are of high quality and completed within the stipulated timeframe. This will allow the residents of Yendi to enjoy the benefits of improved infrastructure sooner rather than later” he admonished.

The Overlord of Dagbon, His Majesty Yaa Naa Abukari II, and his elders, opinion leaders, political party executives in the Yendi constituency are expected to participate in the sod-cutting exercise.  

“The event on 30th September, 2023 will be attended by various dignitaries, community leaders, and residents. This signifies the commitment of Hon. Farouk Aliu Mahama to the development of Yendi. The sod-cutting ceremony will symbolize the official start of this much-needed infrastructure project. The construction of the inner city roads will benefit the residents of Yendi in numerous ways. It will facilitate easy movement, beautify the area and improve road safety within the area” he added.

Meanwhile, some residents of Yendi have commended the Member of Parliament for lobbying to get the project done.  The inhabitants maintained the lawmaker’s continuous advocacy for development initiatives in Yendi are a testament to his commitment to serving the people.
